Pisces Soap Sack

This summer I’m working with Yarn Over Hook and Soap S.A.C.K. as we aspire to motivate the fiber community to crochet 1000 soap sacks, fill them with a fresh bar of 🧼 and then donate them to communities in need 💗 After all, Pisces are known for their deep empathy 💗🐠💗

Let’s use our crafting skills to show some handmade compassion to another human this summer 🩷☀️

  • Stitch Markers (1 minimum, 2 optional but helpful)

Abbreviations

MR - Magic Ring

BLO - Back Loop Only

FLO - Front Loop Only

- Work instructions within ** into one ST

(…)x# - Repeat Instructions # times

[#] - Total of stitches at end of RND/ROW

Making the loop: Slip Knot and CH 15, SL ST into first CH, you have now made the loop. Photo 1 [15CH]

Set Up Row: CH 30 (put a Stitch Marker in your first CH to make it easier to find) SL ST into first CH to close, CH 1. Photo 2 [30CH]

RND 1: Starting in the same ST you just SL ST {Photo 3} into SC 30, SL ST into 1st SC, CH 1.

We are using the Slip Stitch Chain Up method to prevent the Rounds from spiraling.  This can make it easy to lose track of where you end your Round.  I recommend adding an additional Stitch Marker to the final Stitch in each Round so you do not accidentally work into either the Slip Stitch or the Chain Stitch. Photo 4 - 5 [30]

RND 2: Starting in the same ST you just SL ST into SC 30, SL ST into 1st SC, CH 1. [30]

RND 3: Starting in the same ST you just SL ST into SC 7, POPCORN 1, CH 1 (do not pull tight), SC 14, POPCORN 1, CH 1 (do not pull tight), SC 7, SL ST into 1st SC, CH 1. Photo 6 How to Popcorn [30]

RND 4: Starting in the same ST you just SL ST into SC 7, SC 1 into the CH 1 from the previous RND, SC 14, SC 1 into the CH 1 from the previous RND, SC 7, SL ST  into 1st SC, CH 1. [30]

RND 5: This entire RND is worked in the FLO of RND 4, I recommend adding an extra Stitch Marker to the BLO of the first Stitch you work into to make it easier to find later.  If using an end of round of stitch marker place it in the back loop left behind after your final SC of your final SCALLOp stitch.

Starting in the FLO of the same ST you just SL ST into SCALLOP 6 then SL ST into both loops of the 1st SC of RND 5, then SL ST into the BLO of the 1st ST of RND 4 (ie, the Back Loops you left behind earlier), CH 1.  Learn How to Scallop Here [42]

RND 6: This entire RND is worked in the BLO of RND 4.

Starting in the BLO of the same ST you just SL ST into SC 30, SL ST into 1st SC, DO NOT CH 1.  Photo 7 [30]

RND 7: CH 2 (this will count as your first DC - Photo 8), DC 1, CH 1, SK ST 1, (DC 2, CH 1, SK ST 1)x9, SL ST into the 2nd CH at the beginning of the RND. Photo 9-10 [20 DC, 10 CH]

RND 8: CH 2 (this will count as your first DC), CH 1, SK ST 1, (DC 1 into the CH 1 space, DC 1, CH 1, SK ST 1)x9, DC 1 into the CH 1 space, SL ST into the 2nd CH at the beginning of the RND. [20 DC, 10 CH]

RND 9: CH 2 (this will count as your first DC), DC 1 into the CH 1 space, CH 1, SK ST 1, (DC 2, CH 1, SK ST 1)x9, SL ST into the 2nd CH at the beginning of the RND. [20 DC, 10 CH]

RND 10: Repeat RND 8

RND 11: Repeat RND 9

RND 12: CH 1, starting in the same ST you just SL ST into SC 2, SC 1 into the CH 1 space, continue all the way round with another SC 27, SL ST into the 1st SC. [30]

RND 13: CH 2, SK ST 1, (DC 1, SK ST 1)x14, SL ST into the 2nd CH at the beginning of the RND. [15]

RND 14: CH 1, (SC 1, SC2TOG 1)x5  Photo 11 [10]

For the next step you will fold your Pisces Soap Sack closed and crochet both the front and the back together at the same time as you begin to work in ROWS.

ROW 1: Fold flat, CH 1 and stitch SC 5 going through both the back and the front of the opening at the same time. DO NOT cut the yarn. Photo 12 -13 [5]

Continuing with the same yarn, turn,

CH 20, fold your chain and SL ST into the SC at it’s base, SL ST to the next ST.

CH 15, fold your chain and SL ST into the SC at it’s base, SL ST to the next ST.

CH 10, fold your chain and SL ST into the SC at it’s base, SL ST to the next ST.
